Done my finals! Finished on Thursday night. Both tests were difficult, but since I'm not the only one who thought so (far from that), I'm comfortable. Can't wait to go home for xmas. Our ride to the Gar with Brig and Pete will be lots o fun. And I can't wait to check out Ainsworth. I hope that it's snowing when we go.
Our trip to Victoria was great. Hung out with Marcie & Kody, and enjoyed a few parties. Needed that. Good way to wind down after exams. But it was soooo stormy last night! 90 km winds in Victoria (at Race Rocks)! And 115 km winds up in the QC's!!! Winter is windy there, but not used to that much action.

Been a few weeks since I've written here. Well, we came 3rd out of 8 in our Ultimate league... very intense games, but all teams kept their cool.
And I finally completed my ENSC802 project. I might post it online soon. Myself and a fellow student completed an introduction and methodology for Importance Sampling. Very cool and useful (save you bundles of time) for statistical simulations of any sort.
I'm currently studying... hard enough, I think. I have my two finals next Tues and Thurs. Then once I'm done there, and Emillie is done here final on Friday at UBC, we're off to Victoria for a few days to unwind with friends. I CAN'T WAIT!!! I'm getting a little stressed, and I doubt I'll be able to fully relax until my finals are over.
Oh yeah, Emillie's parents are now done their big move as of Friday. Very nice place, and much more convenient for us to visit... it's right on a bike trail from our place!

By the way, the Vancouver Ultimate League website.
In the middle of my last bit of midterms. First one went ok, I think. Time will tell.
We're starting our Ultimate tournament today... that is, if we decide to play. Since the first team we're scheduled to play has dropped out of the tourney, our game this week is optional... they call it a 'spirit game'. They being the VUL.

Wow, did we ever luck out last night! We were on our way downtown to hook up with some friends who were on a pubcrawl. After getting a call from them from a club on a cellphone, with T or Spud (couldn't tell which) relaxingly trying to tell me he had no clue where he was, except that it ended in a '6', we decided we might as well try find them. Walking down Commercial Drive at 8, and stumbling upon the 'Parade of the Lost Souls' was not expected. It was so intense! There were thousands of people, some in costume, some not, and some volunteers. Performers on stilts, belting out olde English skits (there was even a guy in a very convincing devil costume on a podium trying to convince us to vote for him) and fire jugglers... anything you could think of! 7 deadly sins personified, lots of drum players marching with dancers all around, carrying torches or lit pumpkins on the end of staves. Unreal! I can't wait till next year...

Concert was good! Prefuse 273 was much better than I thought they'd be, and Amon Tobin did not play a single one of his old tracks, although he had samples from them throughout. He was a VERY good party DJ, but I'm not sure how he mixed, whether he mixed samples on the spot, or complete threads... I'd like to know. Very heavy music too, much harder than his first 3 CD's. But very good!
Emillie and I had Shirin and Laleh (fellow students from SFU) down for dinner. It went very well, and their first experience with Real Canadian food (TM) (that being fajitas) was great. I can't wait till I get to try Iranian food!!!

We have tickets to the Amon Tobin concert at the Commodore tonight... should be good! Never been to the Commodore before. I've heard they have a spring loaded dance floor!

Well, to update my web log for anyone who's reading this (besides myself), I'm currently 1 1/2 months into my first semester of my Masters degree. Only two courses my first semester, with meetings now and then with my supervisor. I'm enjoying myself, learning tonnes, so I hope that this works out well. I have 2 years to finish, so I have to make the most of my time. Emillie has also started her Masters, and is going full bore... I believe she already has a paper to write!

Apart from that, Emillie and I have been working on our new place. For the first time in the past 5 years, I'll be in the same spot for more than 8 months, so we decided to fix up the yard at our house, start a garden, those kinda things. I'll put some photos up sometime to show how the progress is going.

Well, I finally transferred my website from my computer to the Shaw space. My new URL is Hopefully get a nicer URL sometime soon. I think that I'll be adding some of my school stuff onto the website, for reference and general use. I had to take down the Cleo cam since her tank is now over 10 meters away from the PC.

Great weekend! Patchy clouds, but practically no rain. And since everyone was nervous about the weather this weekend, our campsite only had a few other, relaxed and friendly people. Canada Day in Victoria was pretty amazing too. Some impressive (and illegal) stunts were pulled, included a few guys who climbed a giant (>100ft.) pine tree in front of the Parliament buildings, then proceeded to wave a flag while Big Sugar played O'Canada! Police helicopters were non too pleased about that.

Canada Day weekend coming up. We're getting set to go camping up island. Hopefully it doesn't rain!!

Well, I'm now an official graduate of the University of Victoria. The papers look great!
Saw my nephew Tristan too (Michele and Fred came down for my convocation). He's damn strong! for an 8 month old.

Convocation this week! Emillie's is tomorrow and mine is on Thursday. All our parents coming down, should be good! Get the day off work!

Emillie is out of the hospital! She's at home with her parents, relaxing and being pampered from what I hear. Woohoo!

Monday, May 27, 2002

Emillie's has had her appendix removed, and is now recovering. It's taking a little while longer than usual though, since her appendix ruptured shortly before they removed it. Thus, the leaked fluids have caused infections that the doctors are waiting to dissapate.

Bad news. Emillie was taken to VGH this evening by her Dad, soon after arriving in Vancouver. Looks like appendicitus. I'm glad it was discovered so quickly, since she just started complaining about pain last night. Here's hoping alls well in the next day! I'll probably be going down to Vancouver this weekend, depending on what Emillie's state is.

Just starting to get the rest of the site in order. Hope to have a quick biography with my resume up in the next week, along with any photos I can find.
